Comfort Suites

Things I loved:

It may not look like much on the outside but the Comfort Suites has become my favorite hotel in terms of value for your money.

The lobby features a beautiful mural and the front desk staff is friendly and helpful.  Behind the lobby area is a comfy dining room which features a free breakfast each morning with eggs, bacon, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, and cereal…what more could you want?

In addition, the hotel hosts free beer, wine, and h'or d'oeuvres from local restaurants on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, so this is a great place to meet up after the workshop for group work.

One of the most convenient things about this hotel is its local shuttle.  Their shuttle will take guests anywhere in a 5 mile radius, which means that by staying here you may not have to rent a car, they do however ask that guests call ahead to let them know that you will need the shuttle during your stay to ensure that you will arrive at the workshop on time each day.

Another fun feature of this hotel is its indoor pool & whirlpool- which means swimming year round!  Add that to the gym, the fact that they allow pets, brand new furniture in all the guest rooms, and the special rate they’re giving to Van Tharp clients and you’ve got a great local hotel!

Hampton Inn

Things I loved:

First and foremost I have to talk about the lobby.  Now I don’t know about you, but smells are IMPORTANT to me, and that place smelled great…not like cleaner or old breakfast but a fresh springy smell…quite nice.  As the smell indicated the lobby as well as the hallways and rooms are immaculate, which may be due in part to the fact that they did a full renovation just this past April.  The carpets, furnishings, breakfast area and lobby all look new and homey.

Before even speaking to the front desk attendant I was greeted in a friendly manner, and in the few moments I spent in the lobby before the sales manager came out I spoke with several employees who were are helpful and polite (one lady even commented on my hair color being beautiful…major brownie points!)

When  the sales manager came out we sat down and talked about what exactly made his hotel different from others in the area and here’s what we came up with:

• Free wireless access in all the rooms and common areas
• Free business center in the lobby where you can use their computer, fax documents, or print off anything you want
• Free breakfast each morning including fruit, yogurt, hot and cold cereal, and at least one hot item each morning (omelets, chicken biscuits etc)
• Fitness room (it’s small but has cardio equipment, free weights, and balance & medicine balls)
• Free access to Gold’s Gym which is located between our venue and the hotel and has everything you could imagine.
• Outdoor pool (so it’s only open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, May through September for you out of country-ers)
• 10% off at two walking distance restaurants, O’Charleys and Lucky 32’s

More commentary to come on this hotel. We can say that many of our clients choose this location and we've never heard complaints.

This hotel is very nice and beautiful. When we used to hold our workshops off-site this was by far our first choice. It is a bit further from our office than the three above and much more expensive. But it's in another league of hotels than the three above.

And speaking of a whole other class of hotels. The Umstead is located directly across from the Embassy Suites. It's the most luxurious hotel in the area. For anyone who wants to stay at the very best hotel with the finest quality accommodations, including full spa services this is the place.

This is simply one more option. Designed for longer stays with a kitchenette option. If you're opting for a hotel in this range we'd recommend the first three above because they are closer to the office. However over the years we've had many clients stay here and it has been fine.
